Since 1979 the Lethbridge Folk Club has supported live music – with concerts and open stages covering a wide landscape of sound. Putting a strong emphasis on local and regional artists, it’s an integral part of Southern Alberta’s musical fabric.

This season is dedicated to all the artists and volunteers that have been with us over our 45 years as a nonprofit bringing live music to Lethbridge. We thank you for your support over this time and hope you will continue to do so for many years to come.

OUR HISTORY

The Lethbridge Folk Club was incorporated as a non-profit society in 1979 by many diverse people to provide a venue and forum for local, national and international folk music. The late, great Stan Rogers regarded the Lethbridge folk Club as one of the top five clubs in North America. Almost all major Canadian folk music acts, including Valdy, Spirit of the West, the Rankin Family, and Connie Kaldor have performed at the club. More recent acts include Peter and the Wolves, Lennie Gallant, Oscar Lopez, and Sid Marty with Wailback.
The Lethbridge Folk Club has also organized a number of folk Festivals; first in the 1980s, and more recently in 2021 and 2022. It was involved with the formation of the South Country Fair in Fort Macleod, and participated in the Lethbridge Children’s Festivals.
The Folk Club has operated in many different venues over the years, the German-Canadian Club, the Moose Hall, the Wolf’s Den in downtown Lethbridge, CASA, and the John Martin Recreation area in Pavan Park. Currently concerts are being held at The Cave at Lethbridge College and open stages are held at McKillop United church.
The Lethbridge Folk Club exists to make the experience of live music readily available to people in Southern Alberta and to support the musicians who create the music. The Folk Club fulfills its mission by hosting concerts and open stages regularly. Concerts run monthly depending on artist availability and other local events. Open stages are held monthly on the second Friday of the month. The club usually takes a break during the summer months. Folk, roots, blues, country, bluegrass and Canadiana are a few of the genres we explore, finding notable musicians for you to experience.
The club believes live music is essential to our cultural, spiritual and community fabric. We especially support local and regional musicians whenever possible.

The club is constantly evolving, and needs the participation of new volunteers each year if it is to continue.

The Lethbridge Folk Club intends to renew it’s energy and commitment to Folk Music in Lethbridge by continuing to provide a venue for new and emerging local and regional artists, supporting entertainment, educational and community initiatives that enhance the live music experience for all, protect our sustainability by becoming a registered Canadian charity and commits’ to reestablishing the Lethbridge Folk Festival as an annual Lethbridge event by 2029.
