the John Hewitt Trio return to lethbridge to CONTINUE our blockbuster 45th Anniversary in november
Lethbridge Folk Club Presents The John Hewitt Trio
“It’s rare for a musician to maintain a prodigious output from year to year, and even rarer to have two releases within a year and have both of them be highly acclaimed, yet that’s exactly what John Hewitt pulled off in 2023. Hewitt’s “Broken Rebels” and “Wonderlust” are among the year’s best releases”
– Chad Huculak, Edmonton Journal
John Hewitt is often considered one of the hardest working musicians in Alberta. Performing over 150 tour dates per year and releasing 2-3 full length albums in the process he is one of the most prolific songwriters on the scene.
Garnering acclaim within the industry as a performer and recording artist his folk/country inspired output has taken him to stages such as the Edmonton and Canmore Folk Festivals, Wild Oats & Notes, Waynestock and several US based songwriter festivals including Alberta folk clubs opening and double billing with Amy Bishop, Madison Violet, Tara Spencer, the Skydiggers and Meredith Moon. John Hewitt is a force not seen since the end of the 70’s. There are bands, artists and songwriters that mimic and imitate but John Hewitt absorbs and reimagines. From folk clubs to house concerts, festivals to halls John is a master of storytelling, arranging, producing and a painter of poems scarcely seen in today’s musical climate. Since his early teens taking in the powerful sounds of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and the Grateful Dead he has been wandering, searching and yielding a crop of new ideas from the old world. A multi-instrumentalist from Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and being Alberta bound since 2018 John’s mark on the Western music scene is impossible to go unnoticed. Performing over 150 shows per year (From Alberta and British Columbia to Montana, Colorado, California and beyond), covering 20,000 miles per annum and releasing upwards of 3 albums in that same timeframe there is no comparison to the work ethic, the attitude and the drive that John has as an artist. Fronting the New Americans and touring solo most of the year his output impresses the young and the old, the folk and the rock, the country and the town and the only thing left at the end of the night is a feeling you won’t get anywhere else.
John Hewitt is a master, a choreographer of sound, a man of many hats all worn with style with a dream bigger than the world around him.

These regulars at the Lethbridge Folk Club Open Mics (2nd Friday of the Month at McKillop Church (September through May), Kevan Tolley and and Bud Haycock are developing a quartet with Cathy Hale Hawley and Henk van Ginnekan. We are looking forward to hearing them play together where ever they find a venue.
Keven Tolley is self taught and has taught Guitar in Lethbridge for many years. He has backed up such artists such as Bim, String band, the Wild Colonial Boys, Sid Marty, and Tommy Hunter. He’s currently performing with a group called MoonDawgs
Bud Haycock started playing bass and guitar about 50 years ago and studied music at David Thompson University during the 80’s, with a focus on jazz guitar and bass. I played guitar in several different country and pop bands around Kamloops and then in Vancouver, before moving to Lethbridge in 1992, but have always preferred being a bassist. I played bass in a couple of local country bands for several years and now concentrate mostly on playing the upright in jazz, folk, and classical settings.
