National Music Centre Music Therapy Initiative Supported by Lethbridge Folk Club

The Lethbridge Folk Club supports the National Music Centre’s Music Therapy Program

Eventually, we hope the lethbridge folk Club’s support of this program brings more music therepy oppourtunities directly to Lethbridge to work with the people and organizations in the city and region.

On Tuesday’s Traffic Jams, CKUA’s Lisa Wilton is joined by the President of JB Music Therapy, Jennifer Buchanan, to talk about the upcoming music therapy initiative:

At the Lethbridge Folk Club, we are dedicated to fostering Community Well-Being. We achieve this through the Music we present, the Musical Artists we champion, and by contributing to the National Music Centre Music Therapy Initiative.

By purchasing our Season Tickets, you’re not just gaining access to exceptional music, but also directly supporting this worthwhile cause, with 10% of our season ticket our sales dedicated to it, as well as additional merchandise sales at concerts and Open Stage Nights.

NMC’s Music Therapy Initiative

National Music Centre is committed to advancing music therapy through onsite programs at Studio Bell, and through outreach initiatives across Canada.

Since 2018, NMC has partnered with JB Music Therapy and Calgary Health Foundation to support the music therapy programs at Foothills Medical Centre and South Health Campus and, in 2023, expanded to include Peter Lougheed Centre and Rockyview General Hospital. These programs continue to address the unique needs of patients through a range of techniques, including singing, vocalizing, instrument improvisation, and sensory exploration.

After making an impact in Alberta, this emerging national initiative is also bringing the healing power of music therapy to individuals and families across Saskatchewan, starting with a partnership with Ranch Ehrlo Society in Regina.

To help build NMC’s Music Therapy Initiative nationally, the Jim Pattison Foundation has generously pledged to match every dollar raised. To unlock these matching funds, we need your help to make the healing power of music accessible to more individuals in need.

Every dollar raised will be matched.
